About Wingham


Surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, Wingham is in the "middle of everywhere."  Just 30 minutes to sandy beaches and 1 hour to urban amenities.
 
Wingham is located in rural Southwestern Ontario at the intersections of Hwy 4 and Hwy 86 along the Maitland River in the municipality of North Huron in the County of Huron.  Wingham is a 1 hr drive from Kitchener Waterloo, 1.5 hr drive from London, and a 2 hr drive from Toronto.

 

Wingham’s population is approx 3000.  Catchment area of the hospital is approx 16 000 which encompasses the communities of Lucknow, Teeswater, Belgrave, Blyth, and Brussels as well as many small hamlets.

 

Surrounded by a thriving agricultural community, Wingham also is home to leading manufacturing facilities.  CKNX radio, a member of the Blackburn radio group, has been a mainstay in Wingham for some 75+ years.   Theatre is alive in well in North Huron with the “Blyth Festival Theatre.”   Our recreation complex boasts NHL size ice surface, indoor pool, squash courts, fitness facility and recreation programs second to none.
 
Wingham is also home to Alice Munro, a famous Canadian writer who was born in Wingham.  Many of ther stories are set in Huron County.  A literary garden has been established in the town to pay homage to this renown Canadian.
